This page is devoted to those little
tips and ideas we’ve discovered
that may make YOUR trip a little more enjoyable.
Tip #1 The Bear’s Den is
completely furnished and the kitchen has lots of dishes, glassware, and
cooking utensils but only has a starter supply of coffee, dishwasher
soap, etc. There are two full-service
grocery stores on
Tip #2 I don’t know about YOU, but I like to have access to the Internet while on vacation. The Bear’s Den now offers high-speed DSL from BellSouth. You can connect your laptop or PDA though our wireless gateway or a standard CAT 5 Ethernet connection. See our Free WiFi page for more details. Fermata Café, located between the Bear’s Den and Stoplight #3 on E. Parkway also has a WiFi hotspot. The Fermata Café’s high-speed Internet connections are available for your laptop, or you can surf using one of their desktop computers. Tip #3 If you haven’t stayed in a vacation
cabin before, you’re in for a treat! Be SURE to plan some time to hang out
at the cabin. Schedule time to
soak in the hot tub, have your coffee out on the front porch, walk the paved
roads in the Forest Springs Resort, or just watch TV in bed. The Bear’s Den has a natural gas
grill on the front porch, so be sure to do a little grilling out too! It’s fun and saves on the restaurant
bill.
Tip #4 Read
and add YOUR comments to the Bear’s Den Guest Book. The guest book is one of the best ways for
us and Jackson Mountain Homes to know how you enjoyed your stay and what we
can do to make it even MORE enjoyable. We read all of them. All of
the “Testimonials” on this site came directly from the Guest
Book. Many visitors will include some
of their tips and suggestions on fun things to do and places to go.
Tip #5 If you’re going
to visit with the kids and they like to swim . . .Here’s one of the Best
Kept Gatlinburg Secrets: The Gatlinburg
Community Center ! The Community Center is only about 2-3 miles up East Parkway and has bowling, swimming, basketball, billards,
racquet ball and a walking track, all for only a couple of dollars a
day! (865)
436-4990
Tip #6 You only have a short
stay but you want to get into the mountains and maybe do a little hiking and
take some great pictures of steams, waterfalls, mountains and old barns? I’ve got the answer: Roaring
Forks Nature Trail ! The Smoky
Mountain Roaring Forks Nature Trail starts at Stoplight #8 in Gatlinburg and
ends only about a 1/2 mile from the Bear's Den front door! The Roaring Forks Trail is a one-way drive
that will quickly give you and the family a feel for the Smokies. The Great
Smoky Mountain National Park, Arts
and Crafts Community, and other Gatlinburg attractions are also only minutes away. Here’s an article with some other suggestions for a great
“Weekend
In Gatlinburg”.
Tip #7 Wonder if there’s
good fishing nearby? I’m no
fisherman but I’m thinking about giving it a try real soon. Probably the BEST fishing advice would come
from the guy or gal at the outfitter that you buy your fishing license from?
